Dominic Maffia - Artist

Recently a friend of mine, Dominic Maffia, had an exhibition at a huge art gallery in Kent, the Turner Contemporary (Margate), and he asked if I would document his work.

Here are a few photo's from his collection!

Look out for him, he's a great guy and a great artist.

Interning

As you know I work for my local church, St Georges, and as a contributor to www.lightstock.com I want to try and get into the habbit of taking photographs at any event/gathering that is necessary to. What i'll probably do is just upload the photo's onto here, as well as lightstock, without giving elaborate explanations, unless it is necessary. I'll improve on shooting whilst we're praying or worshipping etc, but I felt this first time I should respect everyones privacy a bit more consciously.

Beside this point, I've been quite frustrated, photographically, with getting shoots done: like I've said before for me fashion shoots involve an extensive team and require reliability on everyones half - in my experience so far as a fashion photographer, if there is one person who hasn't confirmed everything on the team everybody has to wait. So what I am currently learning is how to put particular shoots on hold until the time comes that we can actually do it, whilst planning different shoots as well.
I was quite blessed the last two times I went to PT4U to show my photographs: the teams that I had worked with were very reliable, but there've been many obstacles this time round, so I am trying my absolute hardest to continue to learn, push the boundaries of my work, and try to shoot as often as I can and as good as I can.

Phew. A LOT going on at the moment.

Wedding this month, as well as a spring summer collection for a London based fashion company, & potential magazine exposure.

Will let you know what happens.

Love,

Tom

Light Experimenting - Self Portrait

There is a type of lighting that i've seen in magazines recently that is really simple, harsh and in the face of the model: so I thought I'd try and figure out how to do it!
I was fairly pleased with the lighting in this shot, but not particularly with the composition or pose, but from this i've learnt how to achieve the necessary lighting effect.

Here is the shot!

Lightstock... PACKAGE ARRIVED!!!

Recently I stumbled across an advert on facebook for Christian photographers..

THAT'S ME!?

So I clicked it, and looked into it, ended up being offered the chance of being a part of their organisation!

Basically, this company Lightstock, are a Christian Stock Photography company: enabling people to buy the photo's for use in different magazines etc. It's run by Christians and, as far as I'm aware, for any client wanting to buy the photo's.

Amazing huh?

And on top of that, they've sent me a free t-shirt, sweets and promo cards - I've shot photo's of the package they sent, but I'll shoot a self portrait of me in the top soon, just rather busy.

Luke 4:4 Self Portrait

For my Internship at my church I have been assigned a project to read and write a small talk on the gospel of Luke in the Bible: going through it this idea came into mind that God sustains us, feeds our needs and provides for us all.
So I thought I'd take a shot at illustrating this:
