Wedding Editing finished!

Finished the editing for my first wedding, and I am pleased with the outcome!
As usual there are definitely things I would change, but there you go, that's always the way.

Looking forward to getting a list through from PT4U to say exactly what i've got to do before next visit, just so I can get right on track etc - I'm obsessive with lists, which is actually quite a good habit to get into ;)

Don't know when i've got to submit my PT4U pictures to the team for a certain magazine (i'm not telling you about it YET, unless it doesn't happen for some reason or another), but if I recall it is two weeks - so I can hopefully edit some now (seeing as i've finished the wedding pictures) and then finish editing the medium format files once I get back from Devon as of next week Saturday.

Learning that fashion things tend to be last minute, but that's part of the excitement I guess.

Praying I don't get so nervous before photo shoots - when i'm there I love it, and enjoy it, but the lead up is always stomach churning. Maybe cos' i've only just started into the world of fashion, and it's all happening quite fast, I don't know. God's plan and everything is what i'm trusting at the moment, just going with the flow, and doing my best just as He asks.

Beginning to get used to this blogging stuff, and on another note i'm improving with balancing commitments (Church, Photography, Family/Friends, trying-to-get-work & rest).

Model Agencies

I have a shoot this week..

ooo sounds exciting eh?

WELL. It's hopefully going to be with my first agency represented model, which should be awesome. It's a collaboration with fantastic make up artist Lucy Jayne - she is so professional, driven and passionate about her work. Very organised and great quality work too. So I can't wait!

The concept is a high fashion beach theme - sounds predictable, but you'll know (or hopefully you'll know) that my work isn't predictable!.. okay, well not always..

To get to this awesome location i'm going to have to take a step into modern technology. An invention so complex that futuristic fictional characters can SOMETIMES be involved in it..

A satnav.

Party on.

First Wedding... SMASHED IT

Today, I had my first wedding commission ever shot on my own: I was scared to say the least!
I've just got in and i'm absolutely exhausted.

The bride and groom were friends from my church: they're both students so they didn't have a lot of money, so they told me their budget and I worked with that. Primarily, I wanted to do my best, but this was like a tester to see what I thought about weddings.

In all honesty, knowing that potentially weddings could really help my income, I am considering now doing weddings from word of mouth. So, not advertising myself as a wedding photographer, but if people ask then I will consider.

It was a good experience and I learnt a lot for future weddings. All in all, a great experience, and I'm confident that the newlyweds will be pleased with the outcome!

Arrived after Visit 2

Well, the journey back was so long! But I learnt a lot, again, and it excites me to know how much I had grown since the first time I visited the PhotoTraining4U Team, so I look forward to next time, and seeing how i've stepped my photographic game up.

Whilst being in Cheshire we used the new Medium format 'Leaf' back, with the Mamiya/Credo camera. It was amazing to use, and very intimidating (like much of the experience so far), but I would definitely offer this to a client if the job was necessary. It wasn't difficult to use at all, very simple in fact. What amazed me was the flash sync speed: normally being reduced to 1/200th with flash, you could actually take it as fast as 1/1600th and not get lens curtain. INSANE.

We were shooting one model on the first day as a tester of the primarily natural light in the Mill studio, but we used flash later on that day. Once i've edited some of them i'll upload them to this blog :)
The second day we had to set ourselves a brief to photograph four vintage dresses showing different time periods. This was kinda hard for me, cos' I'm fairly new to fashion I had never done a shoot like this.

Now i'm home, I look back on the last few days, and I take from it the fact that i'm learning A LOT, and it's a blessing that I am fortunate to have, so I am absorbing as much as I can. It has made me excited for test shoots to do at home too, so expect a lot of experimentation! Cos' fundamentally I want to be a better photographer after this Apprenticeship, and thankfully I am tons better than I was before the Apprenticeship, so it is definitely doing something!

Faustinå

Hey!
Been having a bit of trouble getting my muse shots done for various reasons, but I've still been experimenting lots with self portraits and different shoots.
Here is one example: my friend Faustine wanted some promo shots done, as she is a singer, and I thought I could benefit from this too, so I decided to call for a collaboration between us, rather than a commission.
This shoot taught me how to step up my retouching skills: I am continually wanting to get better at the end of the day, so Faustine asking me to go that bit further in retouching may not have been my style, but I certainly learnt a lot from it.
Here are my four favourite photo's:

Self Portrait - Head Shot

I wish I was as gorgeous as a male Lara Jade: self-portraits are a bit of a nightmare for me! Things i've learnt from these head shots though:
- Best retouching/Advanced retouching is on PhotoShop
- To probably start putting clothes on for self-portraits..

So this was lit with just window light, rather than a slight bit of speed-light like my last self portraits.

The picture I have chosen to be my head shot, I think, represents me quite well: I'm a smiley person and the fact you can see the cross on my neck does indicate my faith in Jesus, subtly. Hope you like it!

Website

At long last i've actually finished designing and making my website!
I used the portfolio company 'Zenfolio' and they were so so helpful with helping me create the ideal online portfolio website that I wanted.

Here are a few screen grabs, and here is the link to it: www.tomkeenanphotography.co.uk
