2012 - Summary & Prayers

If someone had told me a year ago what I would be doing in 2012 I wouldn't have believed them.

2012 has been an insane year.
It was during 2012 that I decided I wanted to take up fashion photography as a specialism, through the University of the Creative Arts.
Through 2012, unbelievably, I shot over 55 Fashion/Portraiture series, some of which I haven't even published yet (PT4U contract conditions). I've had 10 photographs approved by Italian Vogue, become a partner of Art & Commerce and Lightstockbranded my photography business complete with a website, shot for modelling agencies, won PhotoTraining4U's yearly Apprentice competition, shot two weddings, collaborated with some amazing artists and I've learnt SO so much.

Thank you so so much for everybody who has prayed for me and supported my work. I've been blessed with everyone who I've worked with and everyone who has been a great friend to me.

I genuinely hope 2013 is a fantastic year for you.

God bless you!

Androgyny - Full Set (not inc. Vogue approvals)

In previous posts I've already written about this shoot, BUT, I am now available to release the rest of them!

I've only got one more to send to Italian Vogue for approval, but my hunch is that they're probably fed up with this set (or the polaroid isn't good enough quality).. Hope not!

Do feel free to comment on my blog if you want to :)

Have an awesome two more days of 2012! Will be posting a cheesy yay-2012-was-great-bla-bla-WAH post soon.. STAY TUNED!!!

Merry Christmas!... With a hint of straight-jacket.

On Christmas day I thought I'd take a gorgeous, over-complementary photograph of everyone in the Keenan house. I wanted to show how stunning we are compared to everybody else on the planet: that we are a unique gift from God sent to show how he really intended Man-Kind to appear visually to everyone with sight.

(I'm being silly, just check out the photograph below.)

Merry Christmas, World.

Androgyny - Italian Vogue Approval

After speaking to the MUA for my last fashion shoot, I decided I would release the photographs in the next couple of days: knowing that magazines put out their own briefs for editorials, I knew that there was little chance of my set of photographs being picked for a magazine.

OH WELL

First photo I submitted to Vogue Italia got approved? Win! Praise God.
So that was a lovely surprise. Once i've submitted the whole set to them, to see what they think of the other shots, i'll release the rest of the pictures.

Check out my Facebook for the teaser photo I uploaded too.

Below is the image accepted by Italian Vogue :)

Imagine Sessions

HAPPY CHRISTMAS
or Boxing Day, whatever.
Hope you are reading this in good spirit and health :)

On the day I shot the snooker shoot, which I'm contemplating putting on my website/blog/photoVogue because I have a feeling magazines aren't going to want me to submit my own submission ideas without asking them first, I also shot at this great acoustic music event called The Imagine Sessions.

Check out the linked page, and attached is a photo I shot at the last one, ironically of the model I used on that day!

Snooker Shoot went well!

I am pleased to say that the photo shoot at the Royal Snooker Hall went very well!

My team consisted of Chimm (MUA), Emma Jacobs (Stylist), Sam Healy (Assistant) & Holly Eastick (Model). I was blessed to have such a supportive team, and though the production was extensive, it was extensive for a reason - great quality.

I'm a bit ill at the moment, so editing the photo's is going to be slightly delayed. #patience

There were a few hiccups on the day: timing, and misunderstanding between myself and the club owner, but all these things help me learn as a photographer. I can't help but think if things ran smoothly all the time I wouldn't have had the experience through learning.

Going to try and pursue magazine editorial for this set. Pray for us?
Attached is a behind the scenes photo I took.

If I don't post until after Christmas, have an awesome Christmas. God bless you!

Ups and Downs

I've got a photo shoot on Thursday (tomorrow).. YAY!
I am blessed to have a great team on board with the Hair & Make Up (Chimm) and styling (Emma Jacobs), but it's been difficult trying to confirm a model.. but luckily I am able to use a previous model I've used before: Holly.

I haven't been slacking, I've still been trying my best to make these shoots as good as they can be, and I tell myself if I were sitting around doing nothing for my photography & work then I would DO something about it, but I haven't, the past few months have been insanely busy. Although, I'm so happy Thursday is happening: get the creativity buzzing with an awesome team, so excited.

Also things are looking really positive with the New Year regarding test shoots: I have confirmed two amazing locations for two separate fashion shoots which I'll be trying to confirm in the Christmas hussle and bussle: in a cinema & rug store (sounds random, but fashion is sometimes, and this should look awesome).

Praying things work out for the best!

All the best,

Tom

Jack Bowden - Musician

This week I booked my friend in for a shoot for his solo music promotion: he wanted a photo that wasn't serious, that was stripped back, and that really represented him. He's a really funny person (sometimes) so I wanted to catch him laughing.

Here is the final result!

Look out for his album next year, he's got a great voice.

Italian Vogue.. Why!?

THANK YOU again Italian Vogue for approving my photograph.. of me.. WHY? I ask this question too.

Here is the link: http://www.vogue.it/photovogue/Portfolio/635f8669-118b-4d49-901c-f4810d121d17/Image

I actually, originally, had a different idea of this shot in the church. I was influenced by Lara Jade's self portraits years ago, of her laying down.. But she is gorgeous, and I have a nose like a Dorito, that a lying down profile shot doesn't lend a hand to. AT ALL.

So yeah, here is the photo, and the link is above.

Behind the scenes: background shots.

As you may well know, I haven't had a lot of luck with locations for fashion shoots.

BUT

I have had been blessed with good backgrounds for the 7 Deadly Sin's photo's I shot in Wales: each time I have had my idea planned it has gone successfully, well, almost.

Attached are a few shots I took at the locations for the backgrounds. I SO want to publish the photo's, but I've been told to be patient (ouch) and wait til' the training videos are online.. MAN

The background behind the scenes photo's are from Lust, Sloth & Envy..
Wonder if you can guess how the photo's will turn out ;)

It has taken, AGES, to do them. (The final photo's with my model Ryo)

Dominic Maffia - Artist

Recently a friend of mine, Dominic Maffia, had an exhibition at a huge art gallery in Kent, the Turner Contemporary (Margate), and he asked if I would document his work.

Here are a few photo's from his collection!

Look out for him, he's a great guy and a great artist.

Interning

As you know I work for my local church, St Georges, and as a contributor to www.lightstock.com I want to try and get into the habbit of taking photographs at any event/gathering that is necessary to. What i'll probably do is just upload the photo's onto here, as well as lightstock, without giving elaborate explanations, unless it is necessary. I'll improve on shooting whilst we're praying or worshipping etc, but I felt this first time I should respect everyones privacy a bit more consciously.

Beside this point, I've been quite frustrated, photographically, with getting shoots done: like I've said before for me fashion shoots involve an extensive team and require reliability on everyones half - in my experience so far as a fashion photographer, if there is one person who hasn't confirmed everything on the team everybody has to wait. So what I am currently learning is how to put particular shoots on hold until the time comes that we can actually do it, whilst planning different shoots as well.
I was quite blessed the last two times I went to PT4U to show my photographs: the teams that I had worked with were very reliable, but there've been many obstacles this time round, so I am trying my absolute hardest to continue to learn, push the boundaries of my work, and try to shoot as often as I can and as good as I can.

Phew. A LOT going on at the moment.

Wedding this month, as well as a spring summer collection for a London based fashion company, & potential magazine exposure.

Will let you know what happens.

Love,

Tom
